Countdown to Earth Day 2020: April 22nd
April 22, 2020 @ 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Please join us for the annual celebration of Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
Earth Day 2020 is April 22! This marks the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day. Although our celebrations are undoubtedly altered due to the pandemic, we can still honor our planet while maintaining a social distance. Over the next week, UFBI will continue to suggest ways to celebrate and share your thoughts across social media. If you have events to share, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The short film TreeTender (2016) follows a young woman, Gaia, on her first day of work as the newest TreeTender, the curator of the Tree of Life. We see her learning about the Tree of Life, the connections between all organisms on the Tree, the importance of understanding these connections, the human-caused mass extinction currently occurring, and possible ways to reduce extinction rates and protect our Earth.
The film, additional information, and a curriculum bundle for K-12 educators and undergraduate classes can be viewed and/or downloaded at treetender.org.
ART AND SCIENCE UNITE FOR BIODIVERSITY: USE THE ONE TREE ONE PLANET CELL PHONE APP!
Discover how you are connected to all life with which we share our planet, and be inspired by ways you can help protect life on Earth. The project celebrates Earth’s rich diversity of animals, plants and other organisms represented by the Tree of Life, whose branches connect all living things. The app can be downloaded for free (android and iphone) and also provides challenges for making a difference and protecting biodiversity.
Join the Florida Museum’s Virtual Earth Day Celebration! Some events will be live on Earth Day, and others can be done at your leisure. to see all, visit https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/event/earth-day/.
